For Referring Doctors
We welcome referrals from primary care veterinarians and specialists. We value and respect the relationship of private practice veterinarian and client and do not offer any “regular” veterinary services to therapy patients. What patients benefit from early rehabilitation intervention?
Certainly all post-operative patients benefit from passive range of motion and appropriate pain control. At times patients should see a therapist sooner rather than later to optimize their recovery and return to function. Complex medical/surgical patients e.g. (Cushing’s disease and ACL repairs)
Multiple limb injuries with or without neurologic involvement
Patients with athletic/performance goals
Neurologic injury e.g. spinal surgery, FCE
If you have any question about the timing of a referral. Please call and we will be happy to discuss the case with you. To speak with Dr. Burke about a case please call the hospital number 410-744-4224. If she is unable to come to the phone, she will return your call promptly. New Patient Consultations
Generally we see new patients on Fridays but can accommodate new patients on other days with some advanced planning. We appreciate the opportunity to review radiographs and recent laboratory work on any referred patient. Communication
We ask that you fill out a basic referral form for your patient and fax it to the therapy center @ 410-747-9231. We normally provide a written summary of a therapy patient’s evaluation and progress upon completion of a 3-4 week planned program. We will call a referring DVM with any concerns or questions or to request that the patient get a refill of medication. It is our routine to send the patient back to the primary care veterinarian for medication or laboratory work unless the primary DVM asks us to do so. We do ask that patients be current on CORE vaccines or titers and that they have a current bordatella vaccination.
